So, right now, I have a phone cradle that is inserted into the 12 volt socket (Cellet Cell Phone & PDA Car Mount) which it uses for support and also draws power from.
This phone mount also has a USB socket which can be used to recharge the phone.
I use a Stella Doradus 3G signal amplifier under the seat and a magnet mount 5dbi gain antenna on the roof of the car outside(best place for signal).
On the resting backplate of the phone holder I have placed a signal induction plate. This 1 mm thick device can induce the signal off the phones antenna. This is the handiest way to get the signal off the phone.
This induction plate has a cable attached to it which I have conected to the signal amplifier under the seat.
From there, I have fed up another cable to the antenna on the roof out through the car pasenger door
This system works great. At the moment I have the Stella Doradus amp sitting on the seat next to me where I can keep an eye on the signal strength indicators on the front of the unit.
As I am driving through country roads I can see the indicator LEDS shoot up where the signal outside is poor. This means the amplifier has to work hard to maintain a good signal inside the car.
The result:
Solid streaming internet radio.
Utube videos run smoothly without stopping.
Oh, and no dropping of calls. I have that total feeling of security whilst talking on the phone now.
